Summer Programs

Minnesota Youth Symphonies Virtual Summer String Chamber Orchestra

The health and safety of our students, families, and staff is our number one priority. In our best efforts to keep everyone safe at home, Minnesota Youth Symphonies will be holding the 2020 annual Summer String Chamber Orchestra camp virtually. MYS is happy to announce this great summer opportunity for your string player!

Violin, viola, cello and bass players in grades 3-10 will be grouped by playing level into quartets and learn classical and folk music styles with MYS String Orchestra Director Patricia Kelly and MYS String Orchestra Assistant and folk music expert Jessica Newhouse. Patricia and Jessica will lead the students through a Zoom lesson with each quartet ensemble, learning both a classical string quartet movement and a well-known folk tune with ways to improvise melodies, harmonies and rhythms.

In our daily music history and/or theory lesson, we will focus on folk music as expressed in classical and popular genres. We will cap the end of each day with a guest artist visit. Throughout camp, students will prepare music culminating in a final virtual performance that they will be able to share with friends and family. It will run from 9:00am-12:00pm June 22-26. Come join the fun! Limit 16 students.

Tuition Cost: $300
