Communications Coordinator

TYPE: Full time, 40 hours per week

START DATE: December 2019/January 2020

COMPENSATION: Salaried position, benefits include sick pay, vacation, holidays and health insurance

Job Summary: Responsible for the clerical duties involving the daily functions of the MYS office, and the coordination of marketing and communications duties as directed by the executive director. This position provides support to MYS administrative and artistic staff while serving as a liaison for families and parent volunteers. Regular hours are 9 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday, however this individual may be called upon to attend Saturday morning rehearsals from September through the first weekend in May, and the position may include occasional additional weekend and evening hours for event management. The person in this position must have access to a reliable car and must have the physical capacity to lift at least 40 lbs. 



  • Manage the MYS office including answering phones and email, processing mail, and ordering supplies 
  • Provide basic bookkeeping support
  • Oversee ticket sales for season concerts
  • Manage external marketing and communications efforts including creating and distributing press releases, managing outgoing ads and soliciting advertisers for concert programs
  • Manage in-house communications for rehearsals, concerts and events such as programs and flyers
  • Manage and update the MYS website
  • Serve as volunteer liaison and assign volunteers for all needed volunteer roles throughout the season


  • Strong interpersonal communication skills including the ability to work closely with parents and families
  • Strong customer service skills; customer service experience required
  • Task-oriented work style and ability to work independently required
  • Experience with designing and editing print materials required
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Indesign or other desktop publishing software required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications required
  • Understanding of email services and web-based communications tools such as MailChimp, Google Forms and Survey Monkey
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous nonprofit and/or music education experience preferred
