Rehearsal Notes

September 27

The Smith Symphony was very weak this week. I have a feeling we’re not practicing and not listening to it during the week. Please please spend time on this piece:

  • Listen to it while riding to school in the car or while doing homework

  • Understanding the piece will help you play it so much! You’ll be able to feel the rhythms naturally.

  • When practicing, please use your metronome AND tuner; pay close attention to your intonation and adjust.

Another great rehearsal today! Thank you for your hard work, attentiveness, and practice at home between rehearsals! Here are things to focus on before retreat:

  • Intonation: Please practice with your tuner on and stop periodically to check intonation and adjust.

  • Rhythm: Make sure you’re able to count the rhythms in your part accurately (as me if you need any help—I’m always happy to help you!!!) and practice with a metronome so you can keep the beat steady.

  • Make sure to wear layers next week. The temperature at East Ridge varies a lot Some days it’s freezing and others it’s very muggy and hot. Be prepared for either (or both) throughout the day.

  • Great rehearsal today!!!!

  • Listen to the recordings (see above)

  • Find difficult passages in your part and work through slowly, being sure to focus on rhythm (and any fingerings/shifting for strings).

  • Bowings will be posted later this week to copy into your part.
